Wyoming’s monument, the Devil’s Tower--
When men so named it, did they mean to mock
The great Creator, whose upsurging power
Preserved itself in this high-columned rock?
Our men of science (who may well be right)
Say molten substance cooled before its birth,
Till wind and water brought it into sight,
Eroding upper layers of the earth.
There have been men of God whose fervent love
Remained concealed beneath this hard world’s crust,
Till in His time they rose and stood above
Their hinderers, who vanished into dust.
This rock will see our age repeat its story:
Men hidden now will rise to give God glory.
