“THE SILENT SCREAM”

Who needs to see a film?  I cannot hate

That sin with greater hatred—so I thought.

But seeing that my dear expectant mate

Was moved to go, and having oft been taught

By hard knocks in the private school of life

That for a married man the finest art

Is knowing how to listen to his wife,

I hearkened to the wisdom of her heart.

And now my life is changed, O little one,

By you, O little one, who lost your life

In unforgettable and hopeless strife—

But not before your whole life’s work was done.

Your body’s broken, but my soul is stirred:

I will speak up now, and I will be heard.
