To the Fremont Police

Whether the strategy was right or wrong

That led us not to walk when we were moved,

Some things, I’m sure, are better left unproved

(Even if they could be proven).  Who was strong

Or dominant or brave may be too long

Debated by the shovers and the shoved;

The wisdom of the lovers and the loved

Can heal us all who struggled in the throng.

Our limbs, your backs, and feelings on both sides

Were strained and injured, more than some could bear.

When after strife my own true love confides

Her injured feelings to me, and I dare

To honor her more highly than my cause—

Love blesses our observance of His laws.
